A Veteran’s Thoughts

It wasn’t too many years ago that two people were able to carry on a civil and informative discussion about politics. Yes, that discussion sometimes gets loud and heated, but it rarely came to blows. Today all that has changed. It may not come to blows, but you may get your car keyed, your house egged or worse. The worse was on July 13th with an assassination attempt on Donald J. Trump. I proudly wear my MAGA hat wherever I go. I also know that some may be afraid of the looks and the hate filled words being yelled at them by someone who takes offense at your show of support. But to kill someone over their political beliefs I do not understand.
Why are we so divided? Why are people so fearful of others? Why do some people actively show their disdain for what other people believe in? On May 5th, Michelle Kosinski, an ex-CNN reporter, posted on X “a few weeks ago, I had dinner with a few couples, friends of friends, all American. All were well-educated and successful in their careers. They seemed great! On the surface…As it went on, my friends and I realized we were surrounded by otherwise carefully closeted MAGA’s. It’s funny how the extremist or just wrong beliefs can’t help but leak out, even when you least expect them, and from people you least expect, they are out there. This dinner continues to haunt me. They seemed so … normal.” I would be curious to know why she believes these “MAGA” people are not normal? It’s this type of thought that continues to divide us as Americans.
I was watching the President Trump rally live when I heard the shots ring out and saw that Mr. Trump had been hit in his right ear. As a retired police officer and former officer with a Green Beret “A” team, I have many questions about how something like this could happen. So far, I haven’t heard any answers to most of my questions. I have been watching the news since that event to learn more about what took place on that day. As a former police detective, I wish that I could be part of the investigation as it seems to me the investigation so far is less than adequate.
I want to know how a 20-year-old man can get so radicalized as to want to kill President Trump? I have circumstantial evidence of how this could happen. I’m also sure that you have the same questions as I have and also wish to understand why it happened.
A few days after the attempt on Trump’s life, President Biden stated that he condemns violence. He then went on to say, “this is why we need unity in this country.” This from a man who has continually called Donald Trump an existential threat to America, a threat to democracy, and if he is elected, he will be a dictator, cancel the constitution and will never leave office.
Nine days after the attempt on President Trump’s life Biden said this, “Trump is still a danger to our country and to our democracy. If we don’t win this thing all will be lost.” How can President Biden say that America needs unity when he continues to say things like “MAGA is a threat to democracy.” “Trump is an existential threat to America.” The elevated level of rhetoric from the Left is real. Could it be that there is still a threat to President Trump? Is there still a deranged person or persons who believe this volatile rhetoric and then will take it upon themselves to eradicate that perceived threat? Could this be the reason there was an attack on Donald Trump’s life?
Biden said that if he isn’t the president there will be chaos in America. I am seeing chaos in America every day under Biden’s leadership. The problem is that there are so many other people who do not see the chaos or simply refuse to acknowledge it.
One example of chaos today is the fact that we were lied to for months or years about Biden cognitive ability to lead America. Other examples are the “lawfare” that we continue to witness against “MAGA” people, most notably Donald Trump. Nothing ever seems to get fixed such as Inflation, crime, or the border. We worry about our open southern border where people from all over the world are entering the country without any sort of vetting. We can’t help but wonder if some of these people are terrorists, criminals, welfare queens, or people who will vote illegally in our elections.
President Biden was half right when he said there will be chaos in America. It won’t be because he isn’t re-elected, it will be his policies. This chaos will continue with a progressive who is elected until this country is fundamentally changed into what the Left wants it to be, a socialist country.
Let us remember what Thomas Payne said so many years ago “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” Our duty is clear, let us not shrink from it.
