I do not understand Lawlessness
As a retired police detective, I do not understand why anyone chooses to live in liberal cities where the people are afraid to go out at night for fear of being shot, robbed, or sexually assaulted. I do not understand why the people in those cities continue to vote for government officials who do nothing to combat the crime in their cities.
Jasmine Crocket (D-Texas) recently stated, “Just because someone has committed a crime, it doesn’t make them a criminal.” New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has described jails as wicked and corrupt. He also said, “we need to ban all guns.”
It seems to me that those on the Left do not know, nor understand, or choose to ignore the Preamble to our Constitution which states, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
When laws are not enforced, when criminals are not put in jail it breeds more crime. It just proves to me that the Left does not care about American citizens. The Left does not care about our Constitution. They are failing to “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, they are not providing for the common defense, or promoting the general welfare, and they certainly are not securing “the blessings of liberty to ourselves or our Posterity.”
For years Liberals have been defunding the police in large liberal cities. We are now beginning to see the error of that decision. By ignoring the “Broken Windows” theory of police work such as vandalism, public intoxication, and theft, it creates an atmosphere of lawlessness. In contrast, holding criminals accountable for these lesser crimes tells the public that lawlessness will not be tolerated, thereby lowering the crime rate.
Why is the Left soft on crime and at the same time trying to ban all guns in America? If guns are banned, then only criminals will have guns. With the soft on crime policies of the Left, the hard-core criminal will not go to jail for gun possession, but the honest citizen who uses a gun to protect himself from the career criminal will. We know from studies that a gun is used for personnel protection more than two million times each year. If guns are taken away from the honest citizen, only criminals will have guns, then who will protect us from those same criminals?
Polls tell us that 81% of those polled identified crime as a major problem in America. As a law enforcement professional (retired) I know that the goal of police officers and prosecutors is to catch and prosecute criminals. That goal is impossible to achieve in liberal cities if they do not acknowledge that a person committing a crime is a criminal. We have all heard Democratic lawmakers being more worried about the criminal than their victims.
The oath of office that every member of Congress swears before taking office is, “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God.”
We all have personal agency, the freedom to choose to obey the law or not. However, this freedom does not relieve us of the consequences of making a bad choice. Every member of Congress takes the same oath as the President, the military, and police officers to name a few. Should we not expect our elected leaders to remember and adhere to their oath of office?
