During Apollo 13’s flight to the moon the space capsule experienced a rupture in an oxygen tank. Shortly after that happened Jim Lovell, the flight commander, radioed Houston and stated, “Houston, we’ve had a problem.” It took some of the finest brains in NASA to fix the problem and bring the crew of Apollo 13 back to earth. Many in America today believe that Washington has a problem, a big problem. It’s going to take some of the most talented and honest men in America to fix it.
Many of us feel like Howard Beale from the movie Network, who said, “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore.” Those who love this country must be aware of the problems in Washington. It is my hope that these people are mad enough to do something about it on November 5th.
There is an old saying “a fish stinks from its head.” I agree, a fish does stink from its head and today the fish’s head is our current president, Joe Biden. He is continuing the work of Barak Obama who told us that he wanted to “fundamentally change America.” Since Biden has been in office America has been fundamentally changed and not for the better. He started his presidency by reversing policies that managed our border security and continued with the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, followed by tacit approval for Putin’s “minor incursion” of Ukraine. By these acts alone Biden has caused himself and America to lose respect on the world stage.
Since the first days of Biden’s term in office the quality of life in America has become more difficult. Some of the reasons are: The invasion at the southern border which has resulted in an estimated three million known illegals, increasing crime and the misuse of our tax funds. Instead of spending our tax dollars on citizens who need assistance, money is spent to support the illegal immigrants, our schools are overcrowded putting stress on our education system, and using public facilities as shelters. In addition, it has been estimated that there have been more than 96,000 “got-a-ways.” I want to know who are these people? Why are they doing all they can to avoid border patrol? Are they terrorists with nefarious plans for America?
One byproduct of our open borders are the drug smugglers who are bringing drugs into the country along with human trafficking. Women and children are being forced into the sex trade and the criminal cartels make millions of dollars from this evil practice. Our government is complicit in this enormous profit to the cartels as this open border policy continues. Biden is doing nothing to stop any of it with his non-response to this crisis and refusing to address this issue. Do not be confused by his recent interest in a border bill. Why would he wait for an election year to decide that he needed to take action?
Another problem caused by Biden’s policies is inflation, beginning with flooding the country with the pandemic handouts. This disastrous policy brought on high inflation, the loss of jobs and small businesses, and an interruption in our supply chain. Prices skyrocketed and have not come down, just the rate of increase has slowed.
Immediately upon taking office, Biden did as he had promised and stopped oil production in America. The price of oil is much higher today than it was three years ago. With the high cost of gasoline, everything we buy or do costs more money. Everything moves with gas. Even though there is plenty of oil in America we are buying oil from other countries, some who are not our friends. Biden is now attempting to force us to buy EV’s (electric vehicles). It doesn’t matter that they cost considerably more than a gas-powered vehicle. It doesn’t matter that the materials needed to make the batteries are damaging the environment. It doesn’t matter that China, our foremost foe, is getting rich while using slave labor to build the batteries. It doesn’t matter that there are not enough charging stations in the country where you can recharge your EV. This push to have everyone own an EV will put thousands of auto workers out of work. Does this sound like what America is known for, innovation and resilience?
There are many problems with the administration in Washington. Here are some additional ways they are “fundamentally” changing America: Men being allowed to compete in women’s sports, blaming all the problems in American on slavery and racism, allowing homeless people to live on the streets of our cities, defunding our police which has allowed crime to surge, climate crusaders who are encouraging the government to spend money on their pet projects with no real guarantee that they will help this perceived threat, the draconian Covid restrictions that we are beginning to find out were totally unnecessary and have even caused problems for our children and the economy that we will be tackling for years to come.
Can all of this be fixed? Yes, it can, however it’s going to take the most talented and patriotic of us to do it. I believe that the Left and the Progressives in this country do not love America. If they did, they would not spend so much energy trying to change it. I love America and I’m sure you do also. As Benjamin Franklin famously said after we won the Revolutionary War “we have a republic if we can keep it.” We must all be in the good fight to keep it, or yes, we will lose it.
